OUR AIMS

We are a charity run setting whose aim is to provide high quality childcare and early years education to children from 9months to school age from Codicote and surrounding areas. We also work in partnership with Codicote Church of England School and local childminders to meet the needs of families.

As a member of the Early Years Alliance (EYA), Codicote Childcare and Pre-School recognises parents and guardians as the first and most important educators of their children. All of the staff see themselves as co-workers with you in providing care and education for your child. There are many ways in which we can help each other.

OUR HOPE IS THAT BETWEEN US WE CAN

– Exchange knowledge about children’s needs, activities, interests and progress
– Share special interests/talents/time for the benefit of the children and the setting
– Build friendships with other parents

During your child’s time with us, they will be cared for by all our staff, however, every child has a specific staff member who is their keyworker.

This means that each member of staff has a group of children for whom she is particularly responsible. Your child’s keyworker will be the person who works with you to make sure that the setting provides what is right for your child’s particular needs and interests. They will also be your main point of contact when it comes to day to day questions. Your child’s key-worker will be on hand to help settle them in. They will also be the one recording observations and taking photos of your child, uploading them onto our online learning journal system and communicating with you at Parent Consultations.

OUR STAFF PROMISE TO

– Give time and attention to each child
– Talk with the children about their interests and activities
– Allow the children to explore and be adventurous in safety
– Provide high quality care and education for our children
– Sustain a service of well-being to the local community
– Promote equality and value diversity

OUR APPROACH

WE FOLLOW THE NATIONAL EARLY YEARS CURICULUM

We strive to provide a safe and caring opportunity for your child to enjoy play whilst gently introducing an understanding of learning. With our routine and their growing familiarity with our learning resources, we aim to help get them ready for their future journey through school. Through our yearly professional membership with the EYA and Herts for Learning we also have access to high quality training and resources.

TOPICS WE COVER

Children start to learn about the world around them from the moment they are born. The care and education we offer helps children to continue this awareness by providing plenty of interesting activities that are right for their age and stage of development, as well as opportunities for child initiated learning.

Included in our curriculum are the subjects of: Literacy, Language, Maths, Arts and Physical Education.

PRAISE AND RECOGNITION

In order to encourage effort and reward good behaviour, children are praised often both verbally and in front of their friends.

Staff take a positive approach to talk and explain do’s and don’ts and engage children in different activities.

FIRST DAYS

Before your child starts with us, you and your child will be invited in for a visit and settling in session. This gives an opportunity for the staff to explain how the session or day is run and for you to ask any questions you may have. The staff will sit with you whilst your child plays. This gives us time to learn a bit of background about your little one and gives the child time to become familiar with our setting and prepare to come to our setting on their own.
